Bioremediation

bioremediation image

Students can easily isolate oil-eating bacteria from the ground around the school or their homes – these bacteria which use lipids as their carbon source are a great launching point for discussion on bioremediation. The laboratory uses basic microbiological techniques and requires that teachers have the ability to prepare sterile minimal agar growth plates and dispose of bacterial waste.

Suitable for high school and many college students.
