DEER

Is That A Doe Or A Buck In Your Freezer?

You are an investigator for the DNR and this year’s deer hunt has been strictly regulated due to a sharply declining deer population here in Lotsawolf County.
(OK, OK – this is fiction!)

Bucks are OK, but does are off limits this year.

Compressed by NetMechanic

Wilbur Slacker has been implicated for illegally hunting does.

You find 6 packages of venison in Wilbur’s freezer.

Did Wilbur kill any does? Can you help me solve the mystery?

DNA was isolated from all six meat samples, amplified for regions on interest on the X and Y sex chromosomes, then run on a gel with male and female deer control DNA.

Evidence

Wilbur’s Deer Meat evidence

What do the results show you?

Was there female deer meat in Wilbur’s freezer?

Can you determine how many deer carcasses Wilbur has?
