Isolate DNA
from a fruit
smoothie!!

Here is a simple protocol for the isolation of DNA in something we can all relate to, a delicious fruit smoothie! Utilizes almost no laboratory equipment and allows students the opportunity to explore the accessibility of DNA, the nature of genetic material (strawberry DNA resembles kangaroo DNA resembles human DNA), and to actually see and touch genetic concepts you are exploring in your classroom.

Suitable for 6th grade to adults.
