Genetically
Modified Foods

This laboratory project is an advanced biotech activity to demonstrate the testing mechanisms and the extent of genetic modifications in the U.S. food supply. Students will isolate DNA from common corn and soy-based foods then perform PCR to confirm or deny the presence of genetic modifications. Teachers must have the ability to run DNA gel electrophoresis and perform the polymerase chain reaction with their students to complete this activity.

Suitable for advanced high school students and many college students.
