#1. BUS & PARA-TRANSIT SERVICES
In November 2008, Student Senate will sponsor a referendum to ask students to vote on whether, or not, they want to continue to have the Metro Bus & Para-Transit Program at MATC.
#2. TEXTBOOK COSTS
The Student Senate is exploring ways to reduce textbook costs for MATC students.
#3. COMMUNICATION WITH STUDENTS
The Student Senate is enhancing their website. It will eventually include interfaces with students via MySpace, Facebook, U-Tube, Inside MATC, BlackBoard, etc. Students will be able to get information, discuss ideas and vote online for MATC elections and referendums.
#4. INCREASED CLASS AVAILABILITY
The Student Senate is advocating an increase in course offerings at MATC. The goal is to have more course available to students during summer months, evenings and weekends. Of special concern is the need for greater class availability at the MATC Downtown Education Center. The Senate is likewise an advocate of creating more and more on-line class options for students.
#5. NEW CONSTRUCTION & RENOVATION OF FACILITIES
The Student Senate is involved in the college planning process to develop a districtwide “facilities plan.” The Student Senate has long maintained an aggressive stance to create a “College Student Union” for student events, activities and services at MATC.
#6. SAFETY
The Student Senate is working to increase safety with regard to crosswalks, intersections, parking lots and roadways near MATC - Truax.
#7. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE VAN
The Student Senate has a goal to acquire a college van with wheelchair-lift capabilities. Transportation such as this is needed each year for students, staff and faculty who are traveling as part of class-work and / or student organization sponsored involvement.
